About
In October 2023, I traveled to Monterrey, Mexico, alongside a fellow student the University of Ottawa’s Dean of Engineering, representing the University of Ottawa’s Student-Led International Partnership Efforts. The goal of the trip was to meet a group of students that I and the team at uOttaHack (University of Ottawa’s Hackathon) had started working closely with since the beginning of summer.
We helped them grow their hackathon community from 0 to 1; focusing on growth, engagement, product, and design. Additionally, we collaborated with their student hackathon organization to host an synchronized international hackathon across both schools — The University of Ottawa and Tec De Monterrey, 1,928 miles away :)
Our international event emphasized global collaboration, addressing real-world challenges in education, economic development, healthcare, and sustainability. It welcomed students from Canada, the US, and Mexico, offering opportunities to connect, collaborate, and engage with other students and employers through technical challenges, workshops, community events, speaker series, and more.
Impact
Our international hackathon event took place from March 1st to 3rd, 2024, attracting over 800 students from across Canada, the United States, and Mexico!
Personal Growth
While in Mexico, I had the chance to meet the amazing student group we worked with, explore their campus, plan our international event, and live life in Monterrey! I feel fortunate to have met such incredibly welcoming and warm students and to have made some new life-long friends :)
